in 1971, Viacom Enterprises was spun off to comply with FCC regulations prohbiting tv networks from distributing shows under their own name. Viacom formed Viacom.. PRODUCTIONS [viacom standing for Visual Audio Communications] to produce tv series' dat aired on the major tv networks. it distirbuted cbs stuff, and then later distributed stuff from
till they got their own syndication companies (yes this is also a todo list for me :'3). in 1986 National Amusements bought em, and made em be a part of the brand new "Viacom Inc.". on March 11, 1994 Viacom Productions was reincorporated as a production subdivision of Paramount Television. cuz of serious financial trouble, in 2004 the production unit was folded into Paramount Network Television and in 2005 Paramount took control of the remaining series' produced by Viacom. on December 31st, Viacom was reincorporated into CBS Corporation. The same day, a new Viacom was formed... our story continues there

CLG note: "The logo was standard for the early Seventies with its simple and rough animation and eccentric sound effects. This logo isn't anywhere close to being as well known (or perhaps even feared) as its successors, because of both its short lifespan and chronic plastering."

AVID note: "This logo gained a reputation as one of the scariest logos of all time when it was used, due to its animation and music (more so with the warp-speed and B&W variants), earning the unofficial nickname "V of Doom". Nonetheless, it has been known to be a memorable one for those who grew up with this logo, and has been a fan favorite in the community."
CLG note: "It is very well known as one of the most popular 'scary logos' ever created during the time frame, along with "The S from Hell", "The Mask of Guo Xiang", "Princess Ozma", and "THX". In fact, this is the very first logo known to be labeled as such on the Internet. Despite this, though, it's a favorite among some of those who are used to it."

AVID note: "Another beloved logo by some for its CGI, music (especially on the International variant), and voice-over. However, it was rather criticized by people due to its tendency to plaster older Viacom logos."
CLG note: "Another beloved logo by some for its good-looking CGI, music (especially on the International variant), and classic voice-over. This also marked a departure from the "V" logo that was used for the past fourteen years. The core design initially lasted for fifteen years, but even after the current Viacom debuted in 2006, some logos from Paramount has prolonged use of its font past its original lifespan, such as the movie logo maintained it for their byline until at least 2010, and the home entertainment logos retained this even to this day."
